Call us old-fashioned, but email marketing is still one of the best tools out there for customer retention no matter what business you’re in. And if you’re in the business of serving car enthusiasts, it is a critical component of your marketing plan.
If it isn’t, it should be.
The first modern email marketing campaign happened in 1998. The internet was still brand new and emails were all the same – nothing but plain, boring text. But Procter & Gamble, who owned Cover Girl, gambled on an idea presented by their ad agency Grey Interactive, that you could send emails to people that looked like web pages. P&G green-lit the program, threw a bunch of money at the project, and Grey built a custom email delivery platform. The first try had some bugs, but the second try…was pure sales magic.
I know, because I was there. Sending rich emails was my idea.
Over the years, email marketing has developed into a multi-billion dollar business. There are self-service platforms out there for small and medium-sized businesses that do a really excellent job of sending emails to your clients. Constant Contact and MailChimp are among the most popular. and if you’re a larger business, there are tools like Sailthru.
The thing is, as good as those platforms are for email marketing, they’re useless without a list of people you can send your emails to. Yes, they all provide you with some kind of signup form, but not every person wants to leave you their email address. They have enough SPAM in their inbox. What you have to do is give them a reason to want to give you their email. That’s where we come in. We understand the technology and how to leverage it in a way that the consumer makes the decision you want them to make.
Work with people who have been strategic thinkers in the field of email marketing long before there was a field called email marketing.
